Here are a few reminders:

This Thursday, we will have a Pajama day and breakfast Hot Lunch. Students in Pre K through Grade 3 wear pajamas with sneakers. Grade 4 – Grade 8 girls and boys may wear appropriate pajama bottoms with a gym t shirt or sweatshirt with sneakers.
There will be a Home School Meeting tomorrow, Tuesday at 7pm. We will have a speaker on childhood nutrition. The meeting will begin at 7pm.
Notices for Peer tutoring went home last week, and it will be held this Wednesday from 3-4pm.
Pizza Friday order forms went home today and MUST be returned by Thursday, February 9th.
Report Cards were distributed today.
A reminder: If a student comes to school in their own clothes, without a Dress Down ticket, a parent will be called to bring their uniform.

How lucky we have been with the weather so far! I was counting all the snow days we had last year just in the month of January! I am very happy this year is different ,although I do have some teachers and I’m sure some students that are still praying for that one big snow day!

Our two Open Houses in January went well. Quite a number of parents who visited were interested in Pre K and Kindergarten. Thank you to all the students who gave such excellent tours. Our registration for the 2012-2013 school year has begun and re-registration packets to our current families will be coming home the week of February 13^th.
Saint Stephen School celebrated Catholic Schools last week with a number of activities. It was great to see many of you, along with other family members at the special person’s luncheons. The children enjoyed the pep rally on Thursday, especially seeing Father Bob with a whole head of blue and yellow hair!
On Friday, January 27, we went to church and celebrated a birthday Mass to remember Mrs. Nathans. Her birthday would have been January 29^th.
On Tuesday, February 7^th we will have a Home School Meeting. First, we will have a nutritionist speak about childhood nutrition and then I will present the Annual State of the Catholic School Report.

Wildcats win St Mary’s tournament!

Congratulations to our St. Stephen Wildcats Boys Junior Varsity Basketball Team on their victory in the Championship Game of the St. Mary Branford Tournament!
The team defeated St. Johns of Old Saybrook in a thrilling game 26-22.

In addition, Jordan Wingate and Michael Acampora were named to the All-Tournament Team by the coaches in the Tournament.

Science Snoopers visit St. Stephen School

On Thursday, November 17th Mrs. Lewis’s Grade 1 class and Mrs. Ferraro’s Grade 2 class had an In School Field Trip. Jean Mai of Science Snoopers spoke to the children about turkeys and hens. She read them a turkey story, made turkey magnets and wrote with a feather. We had a great time!

St Stephen fun with Quinnipiac Bobcats

On Friday, November 11th a group of St Stephen students, friends and parents enjoyed a Quinnipiac Bobcat hockey game. There was alot of action in front of our seats! We had a good time despite the tied game. Thanks to all who came out!

Grade 2 & Grade 3 visit Barnes & Noble

Take A Field Trip To Barnes & Noble Bookstore

Hamden: The children in Mrs. Ferraro’s 2nd Grade Class and the children in Mrs. Soliwoda’s 3rd Grade Class at Saint Stephen School in Hamden recently took a field trip on November 7, 2011 to the ultimate destination for book lovers, Barnes & Noble Bookstore in North Haven. The Booksellers read the children a selection of books and then through a guided tour of the store the children learned about the various components of Barnes & Noble and all that Barnes & Noble has to offer them. The children were also introduced to the “Nook,” the world’s most advanced eBook reader. Following the stories and tour, the children browsed at their leisure choosing books of interest to purchase. The morning ended with the Booksellers treating the children to a delicious snack of cookies and hot chocolate. A wonderful field trip that everyone enjoyed.
