Summer Reading
Students are required to read: Poppy by Avi and Saving Lilly by Peg Kehret.
All students are required to complete a story map for each book. Students will be tested the first week of school on both of the reading selections. Each student will be given a copy of the story map the last week of school before summer vacation in a folder that must be returned the first day of school. The story map in the given folder is due the first day back to school for each book.
I strongly suggest that students keep a book log for each book. Students should have a composition notebook to record important facts, notes, and a brief chapter summary for each chapter. This same notebook will be used to take notes/study guide for the tests that will be given the second and third day of school. This notebook then can be used for the upcoming school Nutmeg Reading Program. The book log will be a great tool to have to review the books just before school starts.
The following supplies are needed for a successful start to a fabulous year. All supplies must be in on the first day of school. Please put student’s name on all supplies.
Have a wonderful, and safe summer! I am looking forward to having a spectacular school year!
