1. Are there entrance exams?
2. How much is the tuition?
Tuition is listed here and is comparable to other Catholic schools in the area. You may be entitled to a stipend if you belong to a parish. Local parishes typically contribute $250 per child annually.
3. Is financial aid available?
Yes. $22,000 in financial aid was provided last year. Please contact the
school for more information.
4. What payment options are available?
Tuition can be paid in one payment for the entire year. We also offer
the option of monthly payments via the FACTS Tuition Management Company.
5. Are there other fees?
Unfortunately, tuition alone does not cover the entire cost of educating a student at Saint Stephen School. Each family is responsible for a $300 assessment fee. There are many opportunities to meet that
goal by participating in several fundraisers throughout the year. In addition, there is a $75 book fee for children in grades K-8. The book fee is $40 for Pre-K students. If desired, milk is provided to the students each day at lunch time for an annual fee of $14. Hot Lunch is offerred once a week and is typically $1-$5 depending on menu choice.
6. Do the students wear uniforms?
Yes. Uniforms are available at Dennis Uniform located at 500 Boston Post Road, Orange, CT 203-795-5457 . In addition,
there is also a gently-used clothing sale at school twice a year for parents to help one another. A minimum supply of brand new clothing for your child will cost approximately $100.
7. Are buses available?
There are two Catholic schools in Hamden and both share a bus route provided by First Student Inc. Students outside the Town of Hamden will have to make their own transportation arrangements.
8. Is after-school care available?
An after school program is available. Click here for more information.
9. Can non-Catholic students enroll at Saint Stephen?
Absolutely. We promote an environment of inclusion, which values the diverse backgrounds of all of our students. Saint Stephen School does not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, creed, color, or national origin. Of course, the religious formation of each student is central to the existence of our school, and each student is required to participate in the religious curriculum as well as liturgical celebrations.
10. Where are you located?
Please see our Contact Info. We are located near the intersection of Ridge Road and the Hartford Turnpike. We are a short drive from State Street and Whitney Avenue, and within minutes from I-95 and Route 15.
11. How old is the school?
12. What sports programs are offered?
13. What other extra-curricular activities are available?
Saint Stephen School has a music program with several bands including a jazz band. Students in grades 4-8 can serve on the Student Council. Numerous students are involved in scouting. There are also book fairs and school dances. Many students also get involved in the community by holding food drives, visiting veterans at the VA Hospital in West Haven, collecting hats and mittens for area shelters, and holding fund raisers for local causes such as the Ronald McDonald House and the Hamden Animal Shelter.
